OK, so we’re a little behind on this post considering the McDonalds opened almost 2 years ago, but we feel it deserves mention!!  Cary, NC is now home to one of the first ‘green’ McDonald’s in the country!!  This restaurant features many  energy saving options including solatubes and low-energy use lighting that provide 97% of their daytime lighting needs.  Plug-in charging stations for electric cars, recycled building materials, and high efficiency water saving plumbing fixtures.  They even made the decorative walls out of natural, rapidly renewable resources like wheat and bamboo!!

The original McDonalds on this site was demolished in 2009, and 99% of the materials were recycled.  The LEED Certified, Green Building Standards Gold award building was operational less than 4 months later.  It is also currently the only McDonalds in the country to incorporate charging stations for electric cars in the parking lot!!
